John Christopher Reilly is an American actor, comedian, singer, screenwriter, and producer. He made his film debut in Brian De Palma's war film Casualties of War . He then gained exposure through his supporting roles in Days of Thunder , What's Eating Gilbert Grape , and The River Wild . Reilly collaborated with Paul Thomas Anderson on the crime thriller Hard Eight , and the dramas Boogie Nights and Magnolia . For his performance in Chicago , Reilly was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the corresponding Golden Globe Award. He worked with director Martin Scorsese on both Gangs of New York and The Aviator .
