Peter Hans Docter is an American film director, animator, screenwriter, producer and voice actor from Bloomington, Minnesota. He is best known for directing the animated feature films Monsters, Inc. , Up and Inside Out and as a key figure and collaborator at Pixar Animation Studios. The A.V. Club has called him "almost universally successful". He has been nominated for eight Oscars , seven Annie Awards , a BAFTA Children's Film Award , and a Hochi Film Award . He has described himself as a "geeky kid from Minnesota who likes to draw cartoons."
