Barbara Ann Mikulski is an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Maryland from 1987 to 2017. In January 2017, Mikulski joined Johns Hopkins University as a professor of public policy and adviser to university President Ronald J. Daniels. A member of the Democratic Party, she also served in the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1987. She is the longest-serving woman in the history of the United States Congress and is the longest-serving senator in Maryland history.
