John William Carson was an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is best known as the host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson . Carson received six Emmy Awards, the Television Academy's 1980 Governor's Award, and a 1985 Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987. Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1993.

He was born in Puducherry, India and raised in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania. Following the financial failure of After Earth, Shyalaman's career was revived with the release of the found footage horror The Visit and the psychological horror Split , the latter of which is set in the same universe as his previous film Unbreakable. He was a producer for Devil and was instrumental in the creation of the Fox science fiction series Wayward Pines.
